Oshakati FMP

Namibia may be known for its arid vegetation, but annual flooding has plagued Oshakati – the country’s second largest city – for decades. And the problem is getting worse each year. In 2011, BAR developed an ambitious and intricate plan to make the city flood-free for good. The idea is to build a dyke around the city with controlled locks, as well as cleaning and deepening the natural, inundated depressions (Oshanas) inside the town. In 2011, the Namibian government approved the project, with plans to finish construction within the next few years.
